No More Heroes Get!

February 16, 2008 at 9:20 pm (no more heroes)

Finally found the game (No More Heroes obviously) at EB two days ago and they apparently got it two days before. Way to go Ubisoft. The game’s only 3 weeks late, even though the “official” Canadian release date was supposed to be February 8th but releases were sporadic and unpredictable. Despite fairly good sales in North America it still doesn’t feel like Ubisoft is fully on board yet. On Ubi’s web page it is among the “Top Games” list, however it isn’t a very selective list considering it contains Red Steel, Petz Catz 2 and Dogz 2. The game has even become the second best selling game at Ubisoft’s official store behind only Assassin’s Creed.

Unfortunately No More Heroes seems like it will follow the example of games like Eternal Darkness, Psychonauts, and Beyond Good & Evil as great games that met with critical success but simply did not sell well. Ironically enough, another Suda game, Killer7 was another game that was well received but didn’t manage to sell many copies. I’d probably say something about how you should go out and buy it if you own a Wii (which you should really, really do) but I doubt it’s going to make a difference. I can tell you to buy the game until I can no longer continue typing because my fingers have fallen off but I think it’s best if you read what the “pros” have had to say about it so you can make up your own mind.

I’ll keep a full review kind of thing until I’m fully done with the game, but up to this point it feels like an 8.5 in my book. The combat is a little repetitive but the motion finishes and the varied wrestling moves break up the monotony and the characters are amazing well thought out. The presentation and atmosphere created really suck you in as well. I’ll get into more later but will only mention that the biggest disappointments are the city itself and the controls of your bike. I’ve stopped using the wheelie and some times the speed boost because your chances of hitting ANYTHING jump 1000x and in doing so you crash with no damage to the wall or car you may have just hit.

Either way, buy it, play it, enjoy it. I know I will.

I’m glad you finally got the game you wanted. Always a positive, I look forward to a review you lazy basterd!

As for your last statement, for me it’ll be:

“Rent it, play it, return it, buy Brawl.”

I’ve even got the thought of a video review in the back of my mind but that seems like it’s gonna be a lot of work. I also hate to think how the game would’ve sold if Brawl hadn’t got pushed back a month because then they would’ve been going head to head.

No More Heroes would have been raped. But luckily for said game Brawl was delayed. However any sales it is enjoying will soon dry up once Brawl is released.

Which is a shame because no hardcore Wii owner should really be without at least having tried either game.
And the video review idea is out the window because I cba to do that much work. :P

It is a shame but come on……. Brawl. Its the reason I had to have a Wii asap xD

DO A VIDEO REVIEW! I would if I had the stuff to make one.

That’s the thing, I don’t have the stuff to make one. I could try and find an RCA to USB type adapter but they’re hard to track down and the ones I have found are expensive.
